Contamination of goods
Residual material or odours from a previous shipment can contaminate goods. Two examples we have seen in the past are:
1. Alcohol was shipped in a tank which had previously been used for wine. The tank was not adequately cleaned and the alcohol became tainted.
2. A ship's hold was fumigated by cleaning fluid. A consignment of cocoa was then shipped and consequently acquired an offensive odour from the residues of the cleaning fluid.
