Home and Safety Assessment

When you first insure your home with us or add a new home to your policy, we provide a complimentary evaluation of the home.   In many cases, we can provide prudent advice about reducing the risk of loss without ever visiting your home.  In other cases, we can provide effective advice only by visiting a home due to its location, size, complexity, and contents.

When we do visit a home, our goal is to:

  • Equip you with the most current loss prevention advice based on our claim activity
  • Confirm that you are receiving appropriate credits on your policy
  • Document your home and its architectural features
  • Note any valuable collections that could benefit from special coverage and safety measures
  • Identify techniques for operating a more eco-friendly household
  • Provide an estimate of the cost of rebuilding your home and, in select cases, replacing its contents after of a total loss

Your agent will advise you on the risk consultation appropriate for your needs.

Why the Home and Safety Assessment Is Important

  • Most homes (64 percent) are underinsured, according to a leading industry study.  By contrast, our Home and Safety Assessment allows us to promise to pay the full cost of having your home and other structures on your property rebuilt after a covered total loss, even if the amount exceeds the limit in your policy.
  • Nearly half of custom homes are underinsured for contents by an average of $600,000, according to a study we conducted to support our Home Contents Valuation service, a unique component of our Home and Safety Assessment process when we visit select homes.
  • We are better able to proactively protect your home and family, reduce the cost of insurance over time, and streamline the claim process if you do have a covered property loss.
